Flower Farming 101 workshop
We understand how exciting and overwhelming it can be to take the leap and start something new. Flower farming is not only about pretty flowers – in fact, growing flowers is perhaps the easiest aspect of being a flower farmer. Farm businesses are complicated to manage; producing high-quality and long-lasting flowers and figuring out how and where to sell those flowers paramount to running a successful operation. We recognize that budgeting for professional development is an investment, especially when you are first starting out, and we promise to honor that investment and share the expertise and knowledge that has made our farm so successful. We did not have the opportunity to learn in a small group from a seasoned farmer before we started, and so spent countless hours doing research, trying to emulate farms with vastly different growing zones/conditions and generally making mistakes; we designed this Flower Farming 101 Workshop to help give you a jump start to success and to be the resource that we wished we had years ago.

What you will learn
Our 2-day in-person Flower Farming 101 Workshop is perfect for beginning or aspiring flower farmers. With the group size intentionally limited to a small number of guests, you will receive lots of one-on-one time with Niki and the experienced Flourish staff – plus learning from and connecting with the other attendees is always incredibly valuable. Each day will be full of hands-on learning, planning and discussion and we will cover the following topics: structuring a farm business, sales outlets, crop planning, variety selection, succession planting, harvesting, proper stage of harvest and post-harvest treatment, seed starting, soils, field preparation and layout, farming maintenance tasks, creating website, social media and more. Plus you will fully experience a working flower farming during the peak season.
Details
Workshop registration includes lunch for both days and a group dinner on the farm. The workshop is held at Flourish Flower Farm in Asheville, NC. You will also receive our 100+ page coursebook, as well as other goodies from our sponsors. Attendees are responsible for their own transportation and lodging.

Our workshops are limited to a small number of participants and the entirety of the workshop will take place outdoors, rain or shine. A note about safety: Your safety on the farm is paramount and we ask guests to remain on marked paths and follow all instructions from farm staff. Flourish Flower Farm is a working farm with uneven terrain and other risks. We want you to enjoy the experience fully and to remain safe at all times.
